When it comes to the psychological aspect of adolescents, they will at some point begin to view their peer group and friends, as more influential than their parents, some argue that their friends and peer group, are viewed as more important than parents, that is highly debatable, because if that is the case, usually there is a problem in the home. According to the World Health Organization(WHO) adolescence covers the time of life from 10-20 years of age. psychologists have divided that time into three phases, early, mid, and late adolescence. Teenage years can be unpredictable, a period of abstract thinking abilities, Abstraction. These years can be very turbulent, or happy times in one's life. The outcome can rely very significantly on the environment, and the genetic structure of the individual. Adolescent psychology addresses the issues associated with adolescence, storm and stress, is it a normal part of this period. The American Psychological Association, has a separate division dedicated to adolescence, and the psychologists specializing in this topic, attempt to answer questions dealing with the age group. One issue in adolescent psychology, discusses whether adolescence is in fact a discrete developmental period, a point alone a continuity of human development, or a social construction. Whether it is designated a discrete developmental period or not, one thing is for sure, it is a learning period, some lessons are good, some are bad, it is a graceful adolescent that learn from his/her experiences, and make wise decisions. This may be due to the activities their friends take part in, such as smoking, which causes teenagers to feel that participating in these activities, will likely help to maintain their friendships. Teen depression can be extremely painful at times, because of physical and hormonal changes; however emotional instability is part of growing up. Their changing mind, body, and relationships, often present themselves as stressful, and that change, they assume, is something to be feared. Sleep deprivation has also been linked to adolescent depression, particularly in the teen years. Views of family relationships during adolescence are changing. The old view of family relationships during adolescence, put an emphasis on conflict, disengagement, and thoughts on storm and stress, was normal and even inevitable.
